The St. Lukes name is known not only for excellence in cataract surgery results and patient care but also for career opportunities and growth in the communities we serve.About the PositionThe Plastic Surgery Medical Assistants role is to provide necessary and appropriate patient care before and after plastic surgery, assisting in all aspects of patient care and providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the medical office. The ideal candidate must be able to work under pressure in an ever-changing environment. This candidate supports doctors, team, and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care management, organization, and communication. The goal is to help guide patients in their journey of looking and feeling their best while completing all activities accurately, with high quality and in a timely manner.Patient and Surgical CareObtaining vital signs, patient health history, and accurate documentation of patient visitsAssisting the Physician during Examinations, Consults, and ProceduresReviewing patient treatment plans, medications, and physician instructions to patientsComforts patients by anticipating patients anxieties and answering questionsSends Prescriptions to Pharmacies by electronic, fax or written form at the direction of the ordering physician.Coordinating referrals for patients to specialists.Calls patients to relay advice and instructions from the surgeonRemoves sutures and dressing as indicated by the surgeon; reapplies dressings as neededProtects patients rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information.Produce and distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes, and forms.Maintains inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing orders, and verifying receipt of supplies.Provide leadership to others through example, training and sharing of knowledge/skill.In-Office Procedure SuitePrepares the operating facility and cleans the room and instruments after each procedureDisposes of contaminated and disposable items, per OSHA guidelinesEnsures proper sterilization techniques (OSHA standard) are used for instrumentsKeeps supply room and operating room neat and well stockedCoordinates the maintenance scheduling/testing of the autoclave and other equipment used in the procedure roomCompletes paperwork when submitting pathologic specimens, and notifies lab that a specimen needs to be picked up; verifies patient insurance for the appropriate labJob Skill & Qualifications:Sterile preparation and aseptic technique experience preferredSuperior written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to exercise empathy when working with patients and their familiesDemonstrate an understanding of standard clinical procedures, laws and regulationsWorking knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA regulations, ICD, and CPT coding (highly advantageous).Comply with all safety policies, practices and proceduresNeat, professional appearanceExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and as a part of a teamCritical thinking skillsMeticulous attention to detail with the ability to multitask and prioritize workParticipate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goalsPerform other duties as assignedService orientedThe Benefits of working for St. LukesMedical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k) with Employer Match, Paid Time Off, and Holiday PayOpportunity to build a career with a longstanding, reputable organizationLeadership and Career Advancement opportunitiesCompetitive wages and certification bonusesMonday Friday work weekWeekends and Holidays offSee more benefits at: https://www.stlukeseye.com/benefits/We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and a Drug Free WorkplaceWe participate in E-Verifyby Jobble
