LABORATORY INTERN The Laboratory Intern shall follow the directions and leads of the Senior Microbiologist and other supervisors. The laboratory intern shall be responsible for completing tasks as assigned by the required time and date. The Laboratory Intern can make recommendations and can take initiative to a limited degree, but all final decisions must go through the Laboratory Manager or Director. The Laboratory Intern will work under the supervision of the Senior Microbiologist on a day-to-day basis. The Senior Microbiologist and occasionally the Laboratory Manager/Director will outline the Intern's daily tasks and will carefully supervise the intern to ensure the tasks are completed as directed. QUALIFICATIONS

• High School diploma or above
• Firm understanding of applied sciences including biology, microbiology, and environmental sciences
• Some college experience studying concepts in chemistry, biology, microbiology, and environmental science
• Experience with lab equipment and lab operating procedures and physically capable of performing the required procedure
• Knowledge of the principles and methods of biological/microbiological and chemical analyses performed in an environmental laboratory
• Knowledge of laboratory safety, equipment, and maintenance
• Proficient in the use of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
• Good verbal and written communication skills MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The intern is expected to assist with the following lab duties: sample collection, sample analysis, data review, data entry, report filing.
  • Maintains, cleans, and cares for laboratory equipment and material, laboratory housekeeping, glassware cleaning and routine equipment/laboratory hygiene maintenance.
  • The intern will always maintain good lab practices and follows standard operating procedures (SOPs) in accordance with Standard Methods and the company policy.
  • The Intern shall follow all Housekeeping Practices and shall be trained in Hazardous Biowaste.
  • Analyze laboratory samples as per the SOP under the guidance of Microbiologist/s.
  • Performs routine computations, maintains records including logbooks, and assist in report preparation.
  • Assist in customer communication and interdepartmental communication and maintains records on these communications.
  • Understands and carries out oral and written instructions.
  • Execute any other assigned task(s)/project(s) by the order of the Laboratory Director or CS The hourly rate for applicants in this position generally ranges between $18 and $20 (based on prior experience). This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications, operations, needs, and other considerations permitted by law.
