Engineering (MatEng) is seeking a Lead Electronics Failure Analysis Engineer. The
position requires the hands-on destructive analysis and evaluation of
electrical components and assemblies. The candidate should possess skills in
schematic interpretation, test circuit development, implementation of design of
experiments (DOE's), identification of failure root cause, corrective action
development, and deployment. Successful candidates will also possess skills in
both written and verbal communication of highly technical topics to
non-technical audiences. Additional assets include knowledge in component-level
electrical testing skills (LCZ bridges, curve tracers, oscilloscopes, probe
stations, etc.), mechanical and chemical de-processing of EEE parts or
assemblies, acoustic microscopy (CSAM), x-ray/radiography including 2D &
3D, and the use of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive
spectroscopy (EDS), and focused ion beam (FIB). A balance of electronics and materials
knowledge will be required to be successful in this role. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide program/customer/laboratory interface and communications to assure full integration of the labs in the program level failure investigation process
  • Provide technical expertise to assist programs with part problem decisions and in establishing corrective action
  • Develop component failure analysis process and methodology enhancements to expand overall lab capability in performing failure analyses
  • Perform trade studies to evaluate reliability/failure characteristics of components and assemblies
  • Assess component level failure mechanisms against system level failure signatures
  • Use curve tracers, oscilloscopes, function generators, LCZ bridges, and general-purpose electrical test equipment
  • Macro and micro photography
  • Develop skills to maintain, support, and utilize specialized lab equipment and systems
  • Perform advanced evaluation techniques leveraging 2D/3D x-ray, CSAM, SEM, and FIB
  • Perform residual gas analysis (RGA) and leak detection for hermetic packages
  • Perform physical failure analysis on all components and assemblies to isolate and identify a failure. Determine failure root cause and appropriate corrective actions, and implement those actions
  • Document equipment procedures and assist in maintaining critical equipment capabilities
  • Ability to apply six sigma tools in the failure analysis process including development and implementation of design of experiments (DOE's)YOU MUST HAVE
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
    • 12 years of engineering experience in an electronics failure laboratory environmentWE VALUE

      • Strong communication skills to enable interface with programs and their customers
      • Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and with respect to generating reports, charts, graphs, etc.
