This is a full time, salaried, Bachelor's level position with the Office of the Public Defender for the 6th Circuit of Florida. The office is in Clearwater at the County Justice Center or offsite at Ready for Life in Largo. Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits include State health insurance, Annual and Sick Leave, and the Florida Retirement System.

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience in general social work including serving at risk children.

Experience in the Florida Child Welfare system in Pinellas, Pasco, or Hillsborough County.

An ability to work closely with others and a willingness to accept supervision.

Sympathetic understanding of the social, economic, as well as legal problems of individuals with limited access to legal services.

Strong advocacy skills.

Existing knowledge of community resources in Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough County.

Experience with educational advocacy.

Experience with early childhood development.

Spanish proficiency is beneficial.

Minimum Requirements:

Demonstrated commitment to the provision of high-quality social services to at risk children.

Bachelor's Degree in social work from an accredited university.

Job Description:

Adherence to The Florida Bar requirements regarding Attorney-Client Privilege and confidentiality.

Attending case staffing's and provide assistance to the Attorneys in case planning.

Client home visits in their placements as requested by the Attorneys.

Needs assessments, as requested by the Attorneys, and identifying services necessary to meet the needs of the child.

Assisting community based care workers in providing referrals on behalf of the children and follow-up on referrals to monitor whether services are being provided in a timely manner.

Recruiting prospective adoptive homes for clients when necessary. This will include networking with the Department of Children and Families, as well as private agencies, adoption attorneys, internet sources, relatives, teachers, foster parents, shelter staff and other members of the community.

Performing unofficial home studies and background checks upon request of the Attorneys.

Obtaining records and reports for clients when necessary.

Tracking client cases towards permanency.

Routine team staffing's with Attorneys and Therapists to track case progress and document barriers to permanency.

Act as a liaison with the Community Based Care provider and its staff to discuss issues involving children in care and early services intervention.

Assisting the Attorneys in providing community awareness and promoting the involvement of the Road to Success Program in working with children in foster care.
